About Me

Hi, I’m Lindsay Bobyak! I’m originally from Minnesota, studied in Indiana, and now call the beautiful Roaring Fork Valley in Colorado home.

I hold both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Double Bass Performance from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, along with an Associate’s Degree in String Instrument Technology (violin making and repair). In 2019, I completed The Global Leaders Institute, now an MBA, earning an Executive Graduate Certificate in Social Entrepreneurship, Cultural Agency, Community Development, Organizational Management, Design Thinking, and Educational Leadership.

I am an active performer across Colorado’s Western Slope, maintain a vibrant private teaching studio where I work with students of all ages and levels, and lead guest workshops and sectionals with regional orchestra programs. As the Manager of Education and Community Programs at the Aspen Music Festival and School, I oversee a range of year-round and summer initiatives that connect professional musicians with students and the broader community. Supporting young musicians and fostering community through music is at the heart of everything I do.

Teaching

As a musician, I have always been passionate about making the arts more accessible. After completing my Masters degree in 2017 (and falling in love with the Aspen area after spending several summers at the Aspen Music Festival and School as a student) I moved to Colorado's Roaring Fork Valley for a service year with ArtistYear, an Americorps program dedicated to placing musicians and artists in public schools. During my service year, I was placed with the Basalt middle and high school band program and began working with the Aspen Music Festival and School's after-school programming. Skiing, hiking, and biking were, of course, required on weekends.

Prior to that, I worked for OrchKids, a program pf the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra that brings music education, instruments, instruction, and meals at no cost, to children in the surrounding Baltimore neighborhoods.

While at Indiana University, I studied string pedagogy with Mimi Zweig, Brenda Brenner, and Lawrence Hurst. My teaching philosophy is centered around the belief that every student learns from the environment around them, and that music is a powerful catalyst for growth in all areas of life. My goal is to bring music into as many environments as possible and to create spaces where learning, expression, and community can thrive through the arts.

Performing

I currently perform with the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra and High Country Sinfonia and maintain an active freelance career across Colorado's Western Slope.

While earning my degrees from the Jacobs School of Music, I studied under renowned bassists Kurt Muroki, Bruce Bransby, and Craig Brown. Over the summers I attended various music festivals, most notably Orford Music Academy, Brevard Music Festival, and the Aspen Music Festival and School.
