Welcome!

Hi! I'm Lindsay Bobyak. I grew up in Minnesota, got educated in Indiana, and now live in Colorado.

I have a Bachelors and Masters degree in Double Bass Performance from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music as well as an Associates Degree in String Instrument Technology (violin repair and making). 

I also completed the Global Leaders Program in 2019. The Global Leaders Institute is an Executive Graduate Certificate (now an MBA program!) in Social Entrepreneurship, Cultural Agency, Community Development, Organization Management, Design Thinking & Education Leadership.

 I currently work for the Aspen Music Festival and School, teaching for their after-school strings programs around the Roaring Fork Valley. During the school day I work for Jazz Aspen Snowmass' education branch as a teaching artist with various public school music teachers and lead sectionals and provide coachings for students. 

I also have my own private studio and run guest workshops with regional high school orchestra programs.

 As a musician, I have always been passionate about making the arts more accessible. After I finished my Masters degree in 2017 (and falling in love with the Aspen area after spending several summers at the music festival there) I moved to the Roaring Fork Valley in Colorado for a service year with ArtistYear, a new Americorps program for musicians and artists. While in Colorado, I was placed with the Basalt middle and high school band program and worked with the Aspen Music Festival and School with their after-school programming. Skiing, hiking, and biking were, of course, required on weekends. 

Previously, I have worked for OrchKids, a program under the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra that brings music education, instruments, instruction, and meals at no cost, to children in the surrounding Baltimore neighborhoods. 

I studied string pedagogy with Mimi Zweig, Brenda Brenner, and Lawrence Hurst while at IU and "grew up" a Suzuki violin kid. My teaching philosophy is centered around the belief that every student will learn from their environment, whatever that may be, and that music intrinsically helps foster learning in all areas of life. My goal is to bring music into more environments and to facilitate learning in many ways.

 I currently perform with the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra and High Country Sinfonia. 

While earning my degrees from the Jacobs School of Music, I studied with Kurt Muroki, Bruce Bransby, and Craig Brown. Over the summers I have attended various music festivals, most notably Orford Music Academy, Brevard Music Festival, and the Aspen Music Festival and School.

I spend my summers freelancing and teaching and have had the pleasure of performing in many musicals through Theatre Aspen and community theaters on upright as well as bass guitar.
